INTERVIEW WITH SAVINGS’ NEW SINGLE “STRESSED OUT” AND HIATUS

After nearly two years of silence, Albuquerque alternative/pop-rock outfit Savings return with their newest single and music video, “Stressed Out,” arriving July 24, 2026 via Graveboy Records. The release is more than a reintroduction – it serves as a catalyst for a complete artistic reinvention, introducing the next chapter of a band fundamentally pivoting their art and reclaiming ownership of their creativity.

Following the success of their 2024 EP How Do You Feel?, Savings intentionally stepped away from releasing music. Rather than chasing the latest trends or the constant pressure to feed the content machine, the band chose to slow down, restructure and rediscover why they started making music in the first place; showing that time away was essential.

We interviewed Savings discussing their hiatus, new single, and what is to come in the future.

What inspired your new single “Stressed Out”, and why did it feel like the right song to mark your return?

⁃We went to go record the next record and all of us had stuff going on in our personal lives that didn’t allow us to be fully present. So we ended up chalking it and decided to take time and make sure we’re moving forward in a healthy manner, taking care of our mental healths and returning when it felt genuine. Stressed out felt exactly like that.

Can you walk me through how this song came together from the first idea to the finished track?

⁃ We began to build more upon the influences we had teetered on already (Hip-Hop, indie-pop), but more importantly we made this song for fun. This wasn’t  something we felt like we had to make but chose to. Our producer for this one (Kai Ross) is a longtime friend of ours and we literally just wrote this in his studio on a random Thursday afternoon after the gym. It was genuine, in the moment and creatively fluid.

Your single “Stressed Out” leans into mainstream alternative-pop influences. Are there other music genres you haven’t tried but want to experiment with in the future?

⁃ We absolutely love indie pop/hip-hop so probably just try to dive more into those genres!

What part of this single means the most to you personally, and why?

⁃ Honestly nothing particular, the song itself is a collective emotion from all of us. So I think that overall is super special to us, that we all individually can relate to what we wrote

What word of advice would you give your fans who are afraid of the uncertainty?

⁃ Thanks for being here, thanks for letting us try new things. We’re most definitely still a rock band but we’re excited to bring our other influences in. We hope you love it as much as we enjoy making it.

What do you do to help prevent yourself from being, dare I say, “Stressed Out?”

⁃ Honestly understanding what’s in your control and out of your control. It’s all about how you react as cheesy as that sounds haha.

What were some creative risks you were willing to take this time that you might not have taken before?

⁃ Diving more into the hip-hop influences on this one was super fun!

If someone is discovering Savings for the first time through this single, what do you hope they learn about who you are?

⁃ We hope this song helps you just as much as it helped us to write it. From the bottom of our hearts, thanks for being here and we’re glad to be alongside you in this journey.

Looking back, how do you feel the hiatus changed you both personally and artistically?

⁃ We learned it’s all about intentionality, learning to balance the creative aspect of being in a band, the business side and also our own personal lives. Most importantly knowing our limit and when burnout can be at risk. We gotta take care of ourselves first and the rest will follow suit.

What is one lesson from your time away that you’ll carry with you for the rest of your career?

⁃ Burnout is a very real thing, as an artist(or anyone in general) it’s extremely important to take time for yourself/recharge and know when you should.

Were there any moments during the break that reignited your passion for making music?

⁃ We started creating for fun again, without a roadmap in mind. Just creating to create.

How has the support from your fans meant to you throughout the hiatus?

⁃ The world truly. For us to not put anything out for as long as we did and still be able to grow as a band is mind boggling. Thank you so much for being here and we’re stoked to share the future with ya’ll.

Anything to tell your fans to look forward to?

⁃ New music, more shows, more music videos. We’re back, we’re better and excited to spend time with everyone!
